(JP➝EN)(Subtitles) Hello! Project 20th Anniversary Project: DANCE
Well… Yes, this is a video related project, so it doesn’t really fit into Medium, I get it. But it’s still translation made by me, and since I’m only starting as a translator, I don’t have the luxury of leaving anything out of this profile.
This was my first official project as a translator, so of course I already think I could have done much better now, less than half year later, but as they say: practice makes perfect, and I certainly had to move on from my endless reviewing. By the way, in Brazil we say: é melhor feito, do que perfeito (it’s better to finish it than to make it perfect).
This project consists in making English subtitles to a series of videos uploaded to the YouTube channel “Upcoming/ アップカミ” (which is an Up-Front Works official channel for uploading content related to Hello! Project and other Up-Front artists), regarding Hello!Pro’s 20th year anniversary. They made videos with several members of Hello!Pro talking about three topics: dancing, singing, and debuting directly from the audition (because many members have some previous experience before they can debut).
I made subtitles for the four videos about dancing, more than 50 minutes if seen without cuts, by listening to the original and directly translating it to English. Though I need to be honest; it wasn’t always easy to understand Shimizu’s words as she talks fast sometimes, and I wished I had their lines written down more than once.
It’s very interesting to watch the three girls, two active members, one retired member and the three of them all excellent dancers, as they talk about their experiences learning and performing dances within Hello! Project. When I watched it back in 2018, when it first came out, I knew it was a project worth subbing. Two years later and I managed to do it :)
